- Delta GEMS
Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully
The Elk Grove Alumnae Chapter organizing the GEMS Program each year
in selective high schools in its Sacramento region.
Goals are:
-To install the need to excel academically
-To provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success
-To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their future
-To create compassionate, caring, community minded young women by
actively engaging them in community service opportunities.
The program currently meets at River City High School in West
Sacramento and Monterey Trail High School.
- Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is designed to prepared today’s girls to assume roles and responsibilities never imaged by our mothers and grandmothers.
The Delta Academy is one response to the imperatives of the future. It is our vision to turn the women of Delta’s resources and energies to developing new purpose, new skills, and new leaders from the ranks of 9 to 12 year old girls.
The Elk Grove Alumnae Chapter organized the Academy in 2005.
Goals are:
-To provide girls information regarding math, science and
technology or careers that are considered non-traditional for
women.
-To install a sense of sisterhood and self esteem.
-To provide information regarding leadership and community
service.
-To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for the future.
- Project SEE - Science and Everyday
Experiences
The SEE program stresses the sciences for fifth through eighth graders and their families.
Program goals involve helping families become creators and informed
users of science, changing the family culture in which science is
deemed important and worthy of participation One-hour sessions
feature presentations, teaching science through activities and
experiments. Meetings are conducted monthly after school at the Elk
Grove Public Library and the Ed Harris Middle School in Elk Grove, CA.
